Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas For Him - From a Guy’s Perspective

Ahh, the Hallmark Holiday. The time of year where guys step up the romance level and try their best to get creative and please their significant other. Or when all else fails, they bring home a dozen roses and a box of chocolates and that should still do the trick. But what can the ladies do in return?  While products from Amazon are always nice, I thought I’d give a few new perspectives to consider this Valentine’s Day to make sure you get some real quality time in together, not just exchange a couple of gifts.

1. Plan His Favorite Dinner:

Ever hear the expression, “The way to a man’s heart is his stomach”?  That doesn’t mean you have to plan some elaborate, unusual meal. Think of a few of his favorite hearty foods to have ready for him, and you will definitely make him a happy boy. I’m thinking some chicken wings and nachos. I know, I know - that is so not in the healthy meal plan that we committed to for 2018! But hey, it’s Valentine’s Day, and I bet it’ll make your significant other much more sweet throughout the night when you surprise him with his favorite comfort meals. 2. Watch Some Sports:

I know it’s cliché to say that every guy loves sports. It’s also cliché to think that all girls don’t like sports. But, if you’re in this category and don’t typically watch sports with your guy, this is the time to make an exception. I’m not suggesting that you buy front row tickets to their favorite team’s next sporting event (but you could!). However, it could also be as simple as surprising him with a t-shirt on and plan to watch a whole game together (and pretend to enjoy it). Even if it doesn’t fall on Valentine’s Day, think of it as an early gift for him, because when he’s still beaming with joy the next day, he’ll want to plan something even more special for you.

3. Plan Shoulder-to-Shoulder Time:

Most women spend their ‘lady time’ face to face. Talking about their feelings and how the day had been and I’m not even sure what else. But guys, we like to spend our time shoulder-to-shoulder. We do things together, but it usually involves actually doing something. We like to play sports, cards, and other activities, while sneaking in some discussion along the way. I’d very much enjoy having my lady surprise me with some type of activity. Here are a few ideas:

- Bar Games: Whether you are watching sports or not, drinking or not, it can still be fun to find a sports bar with some games and plan a night out with a little competition. There are so many options such as trivia, keno, shuffleboard, darts, or pool. Placing a bet always adds a little fun to the mix. Here in the Midwest, a snow angel without proper clothing is a decent one.

- Video games: Not every guy likes video games, but most do. Even if it’s not the latest entertainment gaming system, you could play some old school games or even go to an arcade or Dave & Busters. If you’re still looking for a tangible gift to buy, you might consider a Super Nintendo Mini. It’s loaded with all of the games you could ever imagine and brings out the best childhood memories for you both.

4. A Romantic Night In - For Him:

Think differently on how you might entice your man and make the night special. What does he really like? It might be as simple as wearing his favorite outfit, or something new and lacey. Most guys would appreciate a full body massage, some maybe even a bubble bath together. Think of what he would most appreciate, light some candles and surprise him when he gets home.

5. Coupon Book

For you DIY’ers, a fun idea is to create a booklet of coupons for him to use over the course of the next few weeks or month. Something that includes a back rub, favorite meals, a guy’s night out, his movie choice, or something along those lines. Receiving a coupon to hand you when we really want something is easier on us because we feel like it’s a nicer way of asking, so it’s a win/win!

BONUS:  If you're looking for a surprise for the both of you to enjoy together, sign up for a Bonding Bees date box. The box will be delivered by Valentine's Day with everything needed for a full date night in. Get $15 off any package with code: VDAY  Sign Up

Whatever you decide to do this Valentine's Day, try and spend some real quality time together and not resort to the same old “let’s watch a movie” mentality because it is easy. I encourage you to be brave and do something different. It may not work as planned, but as they say, ‘it’s the thought that counts’ and it will probably go on to be a highlight that you laugh about every year.
